the author and copyright holder Peter Meyer (pm@fractal-timewave.com)
of a single-user license for the Fractal Time software gives the purchaser
the non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the software for

of the software is permitted, nor is the creation of any derivative work,
without prior permission from the copyright holder. Images of the timewave
produced by this software may be used on websites (or in other media)

by the licensor are reserved.

Incompatibility with Vista
--------------------------

This program does not run directly under Vista. However, it may be run
under Vista using a program called DOSbox (see below).

Installation
------------

Fractal Time requires no special installation. Just copy the
executable file, frt710.exe, to a directory of your choice.

Also included is another executable file, frz670.exe. This is
a German version of the software.

Startup
-------

If running Fractal Time from any version of Windows other than Vista,
simply locate the program icon in Explorer and double-click on it.
You can also open a console application window to get a command prompt,
then enter frt710.exe.

Text and graphics output
------------------------

The program was written (in the 1990s) to allow three kinds of output
(other than to the screen):
(i) Output of text data to a printer.
(ii) Outut of text data to a file.
(iii) Output of a particular screen to the clipboard
(from where it can be pasted into a graphics program).

These all worked when the program was run under Windows 98.

(i) may or may not work with later versions of Windows.
(iii) does not work when the program is run directly under Windows XP.
However, it does work when the program is run using DOSbox,
which runs under both Windows XP and Vista.

On quitting
-----------

When the program terminates it saves its state in a file called lastr710.scr.
Since .scr is an extension used by screen savers (which are executable programs)
this can trigger an alert by anti-virus programs such as Norton. It is safe to
allow this file to be written, since it contains only data and is not executable.

DOSbox
------

For directions as to how to run Fractal Time using DOS box see:
http://www.fractal-timewave.com/dosbox.htm

Documentation
-------------

The introductory screen says that documentation (that is, the user manual)
can be found at a certain URL. This URL is now invalid (but this text cannot
be removed from the program).

Full documentation for this software is supplied in the file user_manual.zip.
Unzip this to obtain two HTML files, three GIFs and further files in three folders
(make sure your unzip program recreates the folder structure). To read the manual
load frt.htm into your web browser.

There is currently no user manual for the German version.
